Happy 53rd Birthday Gary.  Thank you Lord for Your blessing of Gary's life. We thank You for many, many more years.
We are going to eat at Gary's favorite place, Goodwood Barbecue.  Thank you to the Hayhurst family for your generous gift certificate to Goodwood.
He received the gift of a nerf gun. Unfortunately, he thinks it great fun to shoot my little baby kitties.  He is scaring the poor things. Hmmmm, perhaps he is feeling slightly better.  It is wonderful to see his impish smile. He even encouraged me to run around so he could shoot me. Of course, I did comply. I am sure it was quite comical to watch.
We wish everyone a wonderful love filled day. Fill the day with laughter and embrace every moment. Blessings to all!

January 28, 2012

Happy Saturday to all. We received word of the markers from Dr. Kuhn, Gary's radiologist. It is E.F.G.R. They advise starting him on the Tarceva form of Chemotherapy. We are interviewing different Oncologists, as Gary was not content with the first Oncologist we met with. I must state, that the first oncologists is very good in his field and well educated, however, he comes across as only wanting to use Western medicine and not, in our opinion, receptive to alternative forms of therapy. I would like to share some events or stories that have happened in the last few months so that all reading this will perhaps understand some of our mental thinkings.
Our daughter Rachel and her husband Josh went to visit a psychic around the time they were married. This is the same psychic that Rachel and I visitied before she was married. Yes, I do believe that we are watched over by our loved ones that have passed and gone to be with our Heavenly Father. I do believe there are some spirits, for whatever reason, stay near to us. Those of you who have trouble digesting this, I ask you this, How is it any different from believing in Saints/spirits or praying to Saints/spirits to intercede on our behalf. Just because a church has not recognized this does not mean it is not possible. God can do anything and bring things to us in ways that might appear as strange. Okay, back to the psychic, Jackie. She had told Rachel and I things that she should not have known. We did not give her any background information.  She is the second psychic that I have been to. She gave me a similar read as the first psychic, who again, did not know me and had no background information. Mostly Jackie read Josh, however, she did let Rachel know that her daddy was sick, sicker than he was letting anyone know.  She disclosed that he would survive. He would not be 100%, but he would live. She then went on to say that she kept seeing the name Laurie, Lorie, or something near to that, and that this was the name of the doctor who would end up treating Gary and helping him battle this horrible illness. During this reading, she also told Josh and Rachel that they had a kitchen light that would end up not working and that their dishwasher was going to give them grief.  All of this happened. Rachel went back and re-read her notes that she had taken while with Jackie. She, of course, disclosed to me, as I eat this type of thing up. Now, back to Dr. Kuhn.  During Gary's check up, she started naming the different oncologists who work at MSTI. She was almost through her list and she said the name O'Lourie. I am not sure what the correct spelling is, but that is not important at this time.  I asked her to repeat the name and I guess I made a sound and a funny face while looking to Gary for his input.  She stopped and asked me if there was some significance to what she had just told her.  I informed her that she was most likely going to think that I was wacko quako.  She said no and asked me to share.  I then told her the story about Jackie and she said that we should meet with this doctor. We have an appointment scheduled for next week. I truly believe God guides in unusual ways, we just need to listen to what he wants.

This is the next interesting event in Gary's journey.  We were given the name of a second "Muscle Therapist" by a gal named Emily Beck, who is a teacher at the school Rachel works at. Emily battled cancer during the same time I fought. She had a much tougher battle than I did.  I notified this therapist and we played phone tag for awhile. While waiting to connect with the MT, I happened to chat with an associate of mine, named Peggy Pryor.  Eventually our conversation worked its way to the MT. His name is Jim Weathers and he has an office in Eagle.  Peggy is one of his many, many friends. She has made an appointment with Jim for her sister, who is also fighting cancer and has been given a dim prognosis. Peggy's sister, Wendy, is a breast cancer patient. She at one time was told she was a survivor, but, alas, no longer is that her diagnosis. Wendy lives out of state and is flying to Boise to meet with Jim. Gary was finally able to get with Jim, yesterday, January 27. I must say, he is not a only a MT, but, a true Healer.  God sent us to Jim. It was awe inspiring. Jim started with working on Gary's feet. Your feet are connected to every part of your body. Jim started on Gary at approximately 3:40 p.m. and finished up at 6:00 p.m. WOW!! He worked on Gary with his eyes closed.  While massaging, he would tell us that he would see certain colors. Gary was seeing the same colors at the same time. Gary had a cloth over his eyes. I did not see colors, however, I could feel energy and healing in the room. Jim has quite a story about his life and living.  You can google him and find out about him. He works with Phil Mickleson, the golfer as well as other well know golfers. He has worked on the president of Ireland, Bill Clinton, Tiger Woods, several professional baseball teams, just to name a few of the many.  Jim grew up with abusive parents and would run next door to his blind neighbor, Toshie, who had a St. Bernard dog that comforted him, when his mother was drinking and wanting to hurt him.  She is who taught him the art of healing. Jim is an ex-green beret. He looks like he can rip you in half with his bare arms. Okay, back to Gary and his time with Jim. Jim gave me some papers to read which were about his life. When I finished reading, I had such an overwhelming sense of sadness come over me. I proceeded to cry silently. I don't know why, I just felt sad.  All of sudden, I heard Jim start crying. I cannot explain what was going on. I did not ask, it was not the time. Jim has had a near death experience so he has experienced something most of have not. He has amazing stories of healing. After leaving, while driving home, Gary said,"look Sue." He was able to turn his head side to side. He has not been able to do this for quite some time. He also had back pain released.  God Is Good!!! Gary has an appointment to see Jim on Tuesday. We anxiously await for this day. I believe the cancer is fighting to hold on to Gary. It is a painful fight, but Gary is strong. The cancer was angry last night and caused Gary to have strange dreams. The weird thing is that I had strange dreams as well and they involved similar  subjects.  I can only say, there is interesting, unexplainable things happening in our lives.  I do believe, even more now, that God has something wonderful in store for Gary. He is going to be God's humble servent, for God's Glory. We continue to feel all the prayers and love being sent our way. We are amazed at all of the individuals that are contacting us and bringing their positive energy and support. WE are truly blessed.

The benefit is scheduled for February 18, 2012. It will be held from 6:00-10:00p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Nativity. 828 West Cherry Lane, Meridian, Idaho. A $12.00 admission donation will include dinner, drink ticket and more. There will be silent auction items as well as raffle items.  If you have any donations that you can contribute, we will be forever greatful!  I do know they are looking for small denomination gift cards to raffle throughout the evening. If you would like to donate or obtain information, please contact Rumana or Marty Zahn, Almost Famous Entertainment, H-208-888-0640, C-208-761-8129. Email information: http://www.almostfamousedj.com/. We will never be able to thank these amazing individuals for the time and energy they have given toward Gary's fight.  They too, are a gift from God. I can say, they are great DJ's. If you have an event where a DJ is needed, we highly recommend them. What an awesome job they did at Rachel and Josh's wedding.  Enjoy the weekend. Embrace the beauty of life and keep positive. Miracles happen everyday. Waking up each morning is a miracle. Blessings and love to all. Sue and Gary

Saturday, January 21, 2012

Hello all. We have not received word as of yet on what kind of markers Gary's cancer carries. We are definately learning patience.
We returned home on Sunday, January 15th. It was wonderful to be home. Great thanks to my brother Tim and his wife Christie for their kindness and generosity shown to us while in Minnesota. Thanks to my nephew Vince for the use of his car. I must say I am very proud of all three of their children. Kylie, Vince and Hannah. I was feeling sad and they gave me great encouragement and love. They all surrounded Gary in positive energy. Happy birthday Hannah!  We did not have much trouble in our travels with the exception of narrowly avoiding two accidents due to the two snowstorms that hit the Minnesota area. Our angels were definately with us on those days.
Gary was feeling pretty good on Monday, the 16th.  Rachel and Josh drove him half way up to Bogus and they ate lunch and then went on a hike. Praise God! I guess the travel and lack of sleep from being away from home did catch up with him, though.  He had some down days on Tuesday and Wednesday.  He did not eat and definately did not hydrate.  I was threatening hospitlization or at least an I.V. for fluids. I felt extremely mean and cranky, I was so worried.  Thursday brought great changes. We drove to Hagerman with a wonderful man named Lloyd Kangas. He introduced us to a Muscle Therapist named Zed. This man has a healing touch.  He worked on Gary's feet and legs. Gary gained fantastic color in his face and his breathing sounded strong.  He insisted that Gary drink 1/2 bottle of water before working on his first leg. When this was accomplished, Zed began his therapy. He had me write notes on what he was doing so that I could work on continuing this therapy.(I'm not real positive I will do so great, but I will definately strive to keep him healing.) After Zed worked on one leg for awhile, one side of Gary's face had a healthy glow to it and his skin was starting to not seem so dry. Gary was asked to finish the rest of the water bottle before Zed went to the second leg. Gary ended up drinking 3 water bottles and did not need to empty his bladder for about 1 1/2 hours. Those of you who know Gary, know that liquids seem to run through him quickly. Zed informed us that our bodies have cancer fighting abilities, we just don't always know how to kick these abilities into action. Zed helped get rid of some of Gary's leg pain. He told us that he started Gary's legs into creating new bone marrow. This is great news. He cleaned out several of Gary's lymph nodes, which will keep his system clearing out the toxins. I know it might sound a little crazy and unreal, but it really does work. I was worked on for a while also and I feel much better than I had. I hadn't even realized how poorly I had been feeling.  Zed pushed out Chemo bubbles from my bones. Gary and I could feel them. It was crazy. Our legs also would warm up while Zed worked on them. What an experience and most definately a blessing. Thank you Lloyd for sharing your appointment with us. How can we ever repay you for your kindness and generosity and love?  Lloyd did not even get an hour for his own healing.  He too is fighting cancer. I must let everyone know that Gary is doing remarkable since visiting Zed. Friday morning once again showed Gary having an appetite and energy. We went on a walk.  He also kept his water consumption up. Today, Gary also had a lot of energy.  I was feeling a little under the weather due to a late night and lack of water hydration. I was sitting in my chair and he came out after showering and told me that he had a lot of energy and wanted to do something. He said, "I know I'm driving you crazy, but I want to go do something." So we went and ran some errands. We were out and about for most of the day and he was still going strong. We came home and rested for a small amount of time and then went to dinner at Olive Garden, courtesy of Frith from Rachel's school. It was yummy and Gary ate well. Thank you again to all the wonderful friends and family who have shown Gary so much love and support. He is so touched by it all. Gary came home and layed on the bio-mat and is finally ready to sleep.
I just want to share a very small bit of background on Zed. His wife is Native American and her mother, if I recall correctly, is a Native American Medicine Woman. She lives in Mexico and does not have running water or indoor plumbing.  She is still of he old ways and sounds very wise and in tune with nature. Zed has also encouraged Gary to consume pure Essiac. This is a herbal blend that has cancer fighting abilities.  Essiac is Caisse spelt backwards. Rene Caisse was a nurse who would combine certain herbs and make them into a tea and give to cancer patients.  There are numerous accounts of the healing quality of this tea for those fighting cancer.
We have some very dear friends in Utah, Ed and Deb, who first informed us about the Essiac tea. They told us of an individual they know who was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had also metastasized into his brain and given two months to live.  He began drinking this tea. It has been five years and there is no evidence of disease. We were told that Gary should drink 9 onces daily. We mix 9 ounces tea with 9 ounces water. They say that after 3 months, his cancer should be on the run.  So we are striving to get him to drink this daily.  He has struggled on some days, the days when his throat doesn't want to let things pass.  However, since visiting Zed, he seems to be having an easier time consuming the tea. (definately not his favorite thing, tea.)
The date for the benefit for Gary has been set for February 18.  It sounds like it will be a night filled with good friends, love and laughter. I will try to post more details as I learn them.  Thanks to Marty and Rumana Zahn. They have a business called Almost Famous Dj. They have gone above and beyond to help us out. We will be forever greatful.  Marty does an awesome job with his business. He was the DJ at Rachel's wedding and did a superb job.  There will be items auctioned off at the benefit as well as wonderful food and music. Just a few of things that I know of that will be auctioned, or raffled are a remote control truck, decor items, and a very large Duck's Unlimited picture, which has had stamps copied from it.(Thank you to Dan Clark). If I remember correctly, the drawing for the guns will be on this night as well.
I am unable to recall if I had mentioned this in one of the earlier post, however, I believe it merits mentioning again.  Gary was prayed over on the Saturday before we left for Minnesota.  We could feel God's healing energy in our home that day.  Gary said he felt different, but that it was hard for him to explain. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior. I/we believe in miracles and Gary will be a walking miracle. We are on God's time and that is one of the difficult things about this journey. I/we want to control and God is encouraging us to have absolute faith and trust. He is Good and He has a plan.
Sorry if I jumped about in this post, but my mind is going a dozen different directions lately. We send our love to all and wish everyone God's blessings and healing strength. Sue and Gary

Hello all!  Gary had a biopsy done on his shoulder on the bone.  He seems to be doing great.  He wanted to go out and check out some things, so we did. He is an amazing man!  We will now be in a holding pattern until the biopsy result returns.  It is a one to three week wait.  He is still eating wonderfully.  He is not one who enjoys pizza much, however, he ate over half a medium pizza last night. WOW!  He is a fighter.  We are anxious to get home. We miss the family.  My little baby kitties were spade while we have been in Minnesota. My wonderful kids gave this as a gift too me. I am so appreciative that they are getting my babies healthy and current with shots.  God's Blessings to all. Have a wonderful weekend!

Great thanks!

Ron and Gayle Nay, and Jay Rasmussen, installed our hardwood flooring in my office that we have had setting in our garage for over 3 years.  The room is so beautiful. Thanks guys.
We new we had great people in our lives, but, we are truly amazed at the support and love from everyone.
Thanks to my dear friend Kim who always answers her phone and lets me cry on her shoulder and reminds me God is in control. Pastor Dale, thanks for praying with Gary. His prayers brought Gary to a closer relationship with God and has given him even more strength to fight.
Kris, thanks for getting my broken fridge and dishwasher taken away.
I am sure there are many more wonderful people I am neglecting mentioning.  We are so thankful, grateful, and truly blessed.
Todd Cluff and his brother Curtis have been a great help at the shop. It is comforting knowing you are keeping things current and lending your hands.
Justin Travis and Ajay Rasmussen, we can never thank you enough for taking charge of our shop. We will be forever in your debt. It relieves us of stress knowing you are watching out for us.

We met with the doctor at the Mayo clinic today.  Gary is going to have a biopsy of his arm bone on Friday to determine what the markers are of his tumors.  It will be a one week to three week wait to hear.  This will determine which chemotherapy will be most effective against his type of cancer.  Gary felt more comfortable with this doctor and his discussions with her.  She is not against naturalistic or holistic treatment.  It was somewhat refreshing.  He is in for a tough fight, but he is capable. He remains positive and tells me I won't be getting rid of him that easily.  I told him I expected him to be around for our 50th anniversary.  We will be celebrating our 29th near the end of February.
I would like to thank the Nokelby's for their immense support.  What a great family you are. WE love you and appreciate all you have done.  They helped, along with UPS, Pacific Recycling, the Mormon church and our dear neighbors, Rick and Linda Diehl and their son John, get us a new refrigerator and dishwasher. Ours had broken recently and life took us on this journey and we had not been able to get them.  How blessed we are.

Saturday, January 7, 2012

We are preparing for a journey to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  Gary has appointments set for two days and possibly a third.  We are going to be staying with my brother, Tim, and his wife, Christie. They live in Champlin, Mn, which is approximately a two hour drive.  We are hoping the weather stays somewhat dry, so we don't have to drive in nasty conditions.  Gary was feeling quite poorly a few days back.  The thrush(yeast infection) in his throat was quite bad.  I believe he also had a terrible cold. He had great difficulty swallowing, therefore, it was quite trying to get him to drink or eat anything. He definately could benefit from gaining weight. The doctors finally gave him additional meds to help combat the thrush. These seem to help greatly. He now is eating and drinking more.  Gary's brothers from Wyoming and their families were here just after Christmas. We enjoyed a fun New Years Eve at Rachel and Josh's house. We had one of his brothers from Wyoming(Del & Nanci), his sister and her husband(Marj and Scott), Cousin Ron and Gayle, Zach, Ajay & Jessica, Todd, Jeremy & Steph.  We had a great time.  Ken and Kelly and Marj gutted my office, formerly known as Rachel's room. Kelly painted the walls and ceilings. Gayle provided the paint. Love the color. Surprisingly, Gary likes it as well. The walls are a soft lavender. Ron and Jay(Gary's oldest brother) and Gayle are working on laying the hardwood flooring. Gayle is also preparing to paint the wainscoting in the kitchen.  All of Gary's "honey doo" projects are getting finished. Ken updated all of the outlets in the front rooms. Gary has been working a little every day on updating the outlets in the other rooms.  It is nice to see him wanting to do things.
We are working on raising money for Gary's medical expenses. We are so blessed by our friends and families love. Ramana and Marty Zahn, who own a DJ business, are working on a benefit. We are so greatful! Ken has donated some rifles that are going to be raffled off. Ron and Gayle are raffling off a quilt on facebook. Ed, Deb and Chad Robinson, Lacy and Joe are working on writing songs that can be purchased online. Bill and Judy Murray generously donated funds which enabled us to purchase a very comfy recliner for Gary. Thank you Bill and Judy.  Greg and JoAnn Jensen also donated funds. Thank you. Jim and Norma Vermillion also donated funds. Ruth and Dee also donated. Rob Hafer generously paid a parts bill. We are so very blessed to have such a wonderful support group. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!
Lloyd Kangas has done a fantastic job of relieving a good portion of Gary's pain. He is a healer.  He also kindly donated the use of his bio-mat until ours arrived. The bio-mat does help Gary quite a bit.

We are requesting that before visiting, you please call Sue first. Gary has not been resting as much as he needs in order to continue healing. The best number is (208)866-7625. Thanks!

We are going to sign off for now. We believe in miracles and the Grace and Goodness of God. He is the ultimate physician and Healer. We ask that you walk each day with Him in your thoughts and positive energy flowing toward Gary. We would like to thank everyone who have given of their time, resources and love. We are a little mentally foggy lately, so if we have neglected to mention anyone, please forgive us.

Blessings,
Gary and sue
